About Cinema City Hungary

Cinema City being part of CineWorld Group, is the second largest exhibitor in Europe. The brand celebrates its 25th birthday on 18th of December 2022, as on that day in 1997 Cinema City Csepel opened its door being the first multiplex of the company in Central & Eastern Europe. Since then, several multiplexes has been inaugurated both in Budapest and in the country.

  • In 1998 Cinema City Debrecen, Győr and Sopron,
  • In 1999 Cinema City Alba (Székesfehérvár) and Pécs,
  • In 2000 Cinema City Miskolc and Szeged,
  • In 2001 Cinema City Szolnok
  • In 2002 Cinema City Savaria (Szombathely) and Zala (Zalaegerszeg), and …
  • In 2003 Cinema City Balaton (Veszprém) multiplexes started to offer a wide range of film choice to the inhabitants of the related cities. 
  • In 2008, Cinema City Aréna became the largest megaplex in the country (total 3.888 seats in 23 halls), providing the unique IMAX 3D experience. Under the same roof, the VIP section offers, with its leather armchairs and all-inclusive cinema experience (unlimited consumption of food and drinks) the possibility for a more intimate movie screening.
  • In 2009 Cinema City Allee (13 halls) became the new pillar of the chain in Buda side.
     
  • Following the regional acquisition of the Palace network in 2011, Cinema City added cinemas in WestEnd, Campona, Duna Plaza, Kaposvár, Nyíregyháza, Mammut and MOM Park to its portfolio. The Kaposvár and MOM Park cinemas are no longer operated by the company.
     
  • In 2013, Cinema City WestEnd was the first cinema in Europe to open a 4DX four-dimensional cinema experience.
     
  • In January 2017, the company added another 4DX cinema to its portfolio in Cinema City Győr.
     
  • In March 2018, we opened our 3rd 4DX hall in Cinema City Debrecen.
     
  • In October 2020 we opened our 2nd VIP cinema section in Cinema City Mammut.
